How would you feel if Chip Kelly was fired?
It would be like being thrown into a dumpster and then seeing your favorite NFL team get a new head coach.
The Eagles, who have been searching for their next coach for weeks, finally got a new face Monday when Chip Kelly hired Sean McDermott as their next head coach, according to ESPN.
The hiring comes a week after Kelly was ousted as the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach after a season-ending injury suffered by quarterback Carson Wentz.
Kelly, 46, was fired on May 29, after the Eagles went 1-11.
He was the first coach fired by the Eagles since 2006, when Mike Shanahan was fired following a 7-9 season.
Kelly’s contract was set to expire after this season.
He will become the second NFL coach to be fired following the death of longtime general manager Howie Roseman in March 2017.
He led the Eagles to a Super Bowl XLIX victory over the New England Patriots.
His firing came one day after the NFL Board of Governors voted to end the lockout and return to the regular season.
The league has already implemented a salary cap for 2017.
The new contract will give Kelly a salary of $5 million in 2016, $5.8 million in 2017 and $6.2 million in 2018.
Kelly was hired to replace a man who was fired in the wake of a 6-10 season in 2016.
His first year in Philadelphia was a roller coaster ride with the Eagles going 11-5 in 2016 and 10-6 in 2017.
They went 6-9 in 2018 but lost their final game in a Week 15 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Kelly had an opportunity to finish his tenure in Philadelphia as a Hall of Fame coach, but he left the organization with no head coaching experience and no head-coaching prospects.
He signed a five-year, $72 million contract with the Bills on Feb. 27, 2019.
He won two Super Bowls with the team.
The Bills have had an open search for a new coach since March 2018, but no one has officially been named as their new head man.
Kelly did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
He has been an NFL assistant coach since 2004 and was a head coach for the New York Jets from 2007 to 2016.
